Building the foundation of a strong RWA

DLF Phase 2 is eager and anxious to bring in a group of dynamic and enthusiastic representatives to form the new team of Residents Welfare Association on 1st September. The elections will be held at the K Block Community Centre right after the Annual General Meeting at 9.30 am.

The new RWA is required to be have an extra edge over the previous teams as they will be playing a crucial role handling issues with our developer DLF Limited and the local administration aka MCG. With the changeover of dynamics between the duo in near future, RWA will play an important part of maintaining balance of constant service level commitments for the benefit of residents of DLF Phase 2.

With not even a month left now for elections, it is imperative to have the right mix of candidates to form a versatile Governing Council. A total of 18 members will be elected by vote of members who are active as on 15th July 2019. These elected representatives will further unanimously choose the key office bearers i.e. a President, two Vice Presidents, Treasurer, General Secretary for the team.

In an ideal situation the Governing Council must constitute an equal representation from each block J,K,L,M,N,P & Q. There must be a fair number of women members from each block with the men. Presence of experienced seniors along with ambitious younger members will bring in amalgamation of conventional and modern approach to solutions. We expect to get nominations from many individuals from each block coming forward and bring their strengths to their table. The nominations will close on 18th August and final list of candidates will be published on 25th August after considering withdrawls, if any.

A list of burning issues of Phase 2 is building up rapidly and the new RWA will have its hands full finding earliest solutions to top ranking topics like roads, electricity, water supply, residents" club, etc. A great solution to it would be forming few sub-committees to address bigger concerns under the leadership of RWA GC. These sub-committees could have a mix of members from governing council and few residents. This will bring more engagement from the residents who can add value to the tasks at hand and have complete transparency of operations.

This GC while attending to various issues also must constantly and aggressively work connecting with people across blocks to add to the membership numbers so that maximum residents are connected under the umbrella of RWA and everyone has a place to voice their concern and participate extensively.

Now that we see RWA gaining strength with its digital media presence over website and mobile app, the information sharing to residents is more regular and updated. This must continue with regular meetings of governing council held and the minutes share with public at large through the digital mediums. It will build more trust of residents towards the RWA to handle their grievances, if any.

The approach to RWA for every resident is also a key factor. A permanent location of office in a common place like community centre and availability of a RWA member there for few hours every day will bring in ease and reliability for the residents. The option of posting message to RWA by the members has already been started on the website and is very helpful.

I am hopeful to see a great team formation that holds a motto to make our DLF 2 the best place to live in and builds confidence and trust of all residents.
